Blast off!!!

So yesterday I had this build your own bubble rocket program. It was supposed to be for teens but I had young kids show up. I wasn't gonna turn them away because I'm sure their parents just dumped them there. So I gather my supplies and we go into the room. There are 2 little boys that start whispering to each other. Then they ask me how old I am and if I have kids and stuff. Then they asked for my phone #. I had to laugh. We build our rockets out of film canisters and paper and take them outside. We dropped in the alka-seltzer tablets to make the bubbles that were supposed to shoot the rockets up. It kinda worked, but it was really windy. I was like fuck it, we're just gonna shoot them off inside. So we did. We got water all over the tables and it was awesome. Their little sister wanted to go home with me and she wanted my # too so she could call and talk to me. I felt kinda bad. With the kids I work with, you never know what their home life is like. At least they liked me and we had fun.

Easter Parade!!

So I have had my first full month at this new job. So far, it's been ok. I had my first real program, which was our Easter Parade. Basically, I dressed up as the Easter bunny, cause I'm awesome. We had some games, I read books, and they colored some eggs. The best part was that I brought my real bunny, Satsuki, for the kids to enjoy. They LOVED her. I'm not sure she shared the love, but at least she got to enjoy some new scenery. However, the day was not without trouble. As I was carrying Satsuki out to place her in the shade of a nice tree, the bottom of her cage fell off. She ran to the tree and was just hopping around under it. Luckily me and one of my coworkers were able to catch her. I just wonder how many people saw that.

I had about 60 people show up, which was more than I thought. The kids enjoyed it which made me enjoy it. That suit was hot as hell though.

Crack kills

I know it has been a long time since I've had a post.  I apologize, but things have been crazy. My job is going fairly well I suppose. It's not as interesting as the other library, but there's not much I can do to change that. Yesterday we had this girl come in, probably in high school, with half of her ass showing. Seriously, half of her crack was showing...and this was standing up. My coworker kept saying "crack kills" really loud from the back. Anyway, this girl was a BITCH. I guess the printer spit out a blank sheet of paper and charged her ($.10) for it. She was yelling about it and throwing a fit, so we gave her a refund. I wanted to throw a quarter at her and tell her to buy new pants and a new attitude. I also was pretty close to yelling back. Dealing with the public can be frustrating. I don't understand how some people can be so rude, especially over a fucking dime.

Weird Wednesday

On Wednesday I saw a transvestite and a woman with way too much facial hair. I couldn't stop staring. It was a weird day.

My new coworker.

So this is my coworker. He's pretty awesome. The good thing he reads all theses sci-fi and fantasy books which I'm really starting to enjoy, so he can give me suggestions. He's already given me a nice list.

First week of my new job.

Well, one week down at my new job. Things are going pretty well and I'm liking it. I'm still in "training," so I haven't done too much. I've had to read to a few kids already and they were sweet and well behaved. I am basically starting with nothing and trying to build these programs up. This library sure is different. It is way smaller, which I like. It also is never crowded and people mostly just come in to use the computers.

I have had some interesting experiences already. My boss is on all this medication for health issues. I feel bad for her. I'm pretty sure the medicine makes her pretty tired.  Anyway, my first full day she was explaining stuff to me and fell asleep mid-sentence! I wasn't really sure what to do. I just asked if she was ok, and she snapped back. Yesterday, I saw a grown woman with a pacifier in her mouth.

*UPDATE*

So I have a major update for you. I got a job promotion! I'm no longer a book shelver, but don't despair! My new job is as a library assistant planning kids storytimes and reading programs. I am also moving over the the library that is on the east side of lubbock in the ghetto. I mean it is super ghetto. I am still gonna see and deal with some crazy shit. I will be keeping this blog and maybe change the the name of it. I will also still post stuff from my last job if I think of something good.

In all seriousness though, this new job will involve me working with mostly children that probably don't have the best life. I think that it will be very rewarding, and I needed a change.

Poor Wilbert cried when I told him. He colored a picture for me and sent it over to myh new place. It was waiting on my desk when I got there today. I'm gonna miss my old coworkers, but plan on visiting.
